Headline Acadia finally delivers deal which could turn to takeout

Shareholders in Acadia Pharmaceuticals would have breathed a sigh of relief last week when the group finally announced a licensing deal for its lead product, a novel antipsychotic called pimavanserin, with Biovail.

Although not the blue chip name that Acadia had once hinted at, the tiny drug developer is at least now sharing some of the risk, after bravely going it alone for the last few years in pursuit of a higher value deal. With phase III data due in three or four months’ time investors will soon find out whether it was all worth waiting for.
