Rigel Pharmaceuticals has lived up to its name. The group, which owes its title to the brightest star in the Orion constellation, yesterday put in a stellar performance and tripled its share price on the back of positive phase II data for its rheumatoid arthritis drug.

A study of 189 patients showed that R788 significantly alleviated symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This caused the shares to rocket from $8 to $25.95. Today, they continued their upward trajectory and rose a further 10% in early trading to $28.50.
